Blurb/Shorttext:
This study investigated socioeconomic determinants of malnutrition among under 59 months old children in Borama district. Malnutrition is lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having enough to eat, not eating enough of the right things, or being unable to use the food that one eats. The problem of the study was the high prevalence of malnutrition among under 59 months old children in Borama district. Despite the high prevalence, the socioeconomic determinants of malnutrition had not been empirically isolated. The specific objectives of this study were to determine the dependence of malnutrition in under 59 months old children on education of parents; on occupation of parents; on income of parents; on wealth of parents. The study concludes that income is the major socioeconomic determinant of malnutrition among under 59 months old children in Borama district. The study recommends that Ministry of Health, Ministry of Family Affairs and Ministry of Education and Higher Studies in Somaliland develop a health education curriculum to be taught at basic education level.
