The construction industry needs to practice its own
ethics management to incorporate the project based
nature and various stakeholders. This book provides
a basis of ethics training and ethical decision
making for domestic and multi-cultural construction
environments. A framework of ethics training for
construction has been developed, comprising both
ethical components and cultural components. A
framework of ethical decision making has been
developed, based on the stakeholder model and the
moral development model for construction. The
validity of the two frameworks have been tested and
proved through questionnaire surveys and SPSS
analysis among UK contractors/ designers, Korea
contractors/ designers and interviews with ethicians
and construction engineers having wide experiences
in UK and Korea. The findings identify the causality
between cultural differences and ethical
differences, the need of cultural interpretation,
the significant role of nationality and the
importance of systematic ethical decision making.
Aristotle’s syllogism has been applied to
theoretically justify the process and outcomes of
the surveys and interviews.
