Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Competitive inhibition is a form of enzyme inhibition where binding of the inhibitor to the active site on the enzyme prevents binding of the substrate and vice versa. In competitive inhibition, the inhibitor binds only the free enzyme, and cannot bind when the substrate is bound (in other words, it cannot bind the enzyme-substrate complex).
