Planning and commitment to staff training activities is one sure means to achieve high quality performance to an institution. Although, training alone may not be appropriate to correct problems, additional training may be needed to augment changes involving an institution's performance management system, technologies, or working environment. New ways of accomplishing institutions goals may well require new or revised training initiatives to familiarize workers with these new processes. This book takes the reader through concepts of staff training and development, and models of effective staff training and development practice. The author thoroughly examines variables that influence staff training and development and how these shape attitudes of staff to training activities in the UEW. The author concludes his analysis by indicating the policy implications of his findings. This study makes an important contribution to the growing body of training and development literature that addresses the way a well functioning training and development system could make significant contributions to the strategic mission of UEW.
