A self-cleaning oven is an oven which uses high temperature (approximately 900 degrees Fahrenheit or 500 degrees Celsius) to burn off leftovers from baking, without the use of any chemical agents.Overall, oven cleaning technology consists of three types: (1) self-cleaning pyrolytic ground coat, (2) non-self-cleaning ground coat, and (3) catalytic continuous clean enamels. The first reduces foodstuffs to ash with exposure to temperature between 900–1000 °F (482–538 °C), while the second requires aggressive cleaners to remove soils. Both of these ovens have walls coated with heat and acid-resistant porcelain enamel. The third relies on high-metals, porous enamels to catalyze the reduction of soils to ash at normal cooking temperatures.
