Matthew Wayne Freije is a Lebanese American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Mets de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico. Freije attended Shawnee Mission West High School in Overland Park, Kansas before attending Vanderbilt University where he was an All-SEC performer. He was selected 53rd overall in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat, was then released and later played for the New Orleans Hornets. He played 19 games for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2006-07 season but was waived in December 2006 to clear a roster spot for Slava Medvedenko. Freije played for the Vanderbilt University Commodores men's basketball team from 2000 to 2004. In 2004 he was named First Team All-SEC and led the Commodores to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1993. He left Vanderbilt as the leading scorer in school history, having surpassed Phil Cox in 2004. His record was broken in 2008 by Shan Foster.
