Over the last few years, the concept of false memory
has become a
topic of great interest to cognitive psychologists.
The idea that
people
"remember" events that have never occurred is a
phenomena that
has
profound implications for many fields within and
outside of
psychology.
This project was designed as a 2x2 between-subject
study that
closely
follows procedures related to the
Deese-Roediger-McDermott
(DRM)
paradigm comparing study phases against test phases,
and blocked
word lists against random word lists. In this
experiment, we explore
the conditions that produce false memories using high
association
word lists constructed to elicit critical lures. We
also measure and
investigate the reaction times of participants to
determine if it is
possible for the human mind to differentiate between
true memories
false memories.
