Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In American and Canadian football, offensive tackles (OT, T) are a part of the offensive line. Like other offensive linemen, their job is to block: to physically keep defenders away from the offensive player who has the football. The term "tackle" is a vestige of an earlier era of football, in which the same players played both offense and defense. Ironically, it would be a penalty today for an offense tackle to attempt to "tackle" an opponent as long as the offensive tackle's own team remained in possession of the ball.
