The focus of this work is the complexity involved in
international projects and the particular difficulty
involved in managing knowledge for this more and more
common type of project team. The idea of managing
knowledge for international projects is a relatively
new one, and for this reason this work concentrates
on the following questions:
What are the major knowledge requirements involved in
international projects?
How does the knowledge transfer typically take place?
What are the core elements and basic success factors
for knowledge management in international projects?
In the first, more theoretical, section the topics
projects, knowledge, and knowledge management are
discussed. In the empirical part the EU-funded
project GILDANET is analyzed to observe the
theoretical findings in business reality and to point
out the specific difficulties and key success factors
for managing knowledge in this context. The final
outcome is the development of a basic knowledge
management framework for international projects.
