Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2005 were held in Bormio, Italy, between January 28 and February 13, 2005. The women's competition was held in neighboring Santa Caterina. Bormio previously hosted the world championships in 1985. Other host cities for the world championships in Italy include Cortina d'Ampezzo, and 1956, Val Gardena, and Sestriere. Bormio is a regular stop on the World Cup circuit, usually by the men in mid to late December. The downhill course is one of the most challenging in the world. These were the last world championships to use the traditional combined format. Starting in 2007, the world championships switched to the "super-combined" format for the combined event. First run on the World Cup circuit in 2005 at Wengen, the "super-combi" format is scheduled to debut at the Winter Olympics in 2010.
