Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Eccup reservoir is a reservoir in Alwoodley, a suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was first constructed in 1843, and later expanded. The reservoir and the surrounding woodlands are both Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The open water area is 91.3 hectares, making it largest area of water in West Yorkshire. The reservoir is now home to a growing population of red kites. A reservoir (etymology from French réservoir a "storehouse) or an artificial lake is used to store water. Reservoirs may be created in river valleys by the construction of a dam or may be built by excavation in the ground or by conventional construction techniques such as brickwork or cast concrete.
