Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Mainline Protestant denominations are those Protestant churches that comprised the vast majority of American Christians from the colonial era until the early 20th century. Most of these denominations were brought to America by their respective historic immigrant groups. Many of these immigrants quickly became affluent and settled, by the time the term "mainline" became attributed to them, in the wealthier suburbs of large Northeastern and Midwestern urban areas.
