Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Ghoonghat or Ghunghat is a Hindi word which describes a type of veil or headscarf worn by Indian women to cover their head. Generally a pallu, that is the loose end of the sari, is pulled over the head, or a dupatta is sometimes worn. The ghoonghat varies in styles due to personal choice and tradition. Most ladies cover only the forehead ears and eyes, this allows ladies to see through their garment although being veiled. A popular style is pulling the fabric from the side of the face and holding it there whilst talking to males, this forms as a quick barrier between the speakers and is the most convenient form of the ghoonghat. In very traditional and rural areas women use their sari to completely cover the face and neck concealing their identity to other males. There is a small minority of women that use the fabric to cover their whole face, chest, arms and stomach areas. This type of veiling is still popular with Hindu brides and is also observed on the wedding day.
