Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Civil Service Union (CSU) was a trade union in the United Kingdom. The union was formed in 1944 from the Government Minor and Manipulative Grades Association. The union primarily worked in the Civil Service, but also in other public organisations. In January 1988 the union joined with the Society of Civil and Public Servants to form the National Union of Civil and Public Servants. A trade union or labor union is an organization of workers that have banded together to achieve common goals such as better working conditions. The trade union, through its leadership, bargains with the employer on behalf of union members and negotiates labour contracts with employers. This may include the negotiation of wages, work rules, complaint procedures, rules governing hiring, firing and promotion of workers, benefits, workplace safety and policies. The agreements negotiated by the union leaders are binding on the rank and file members and the employer and in some cases on other non-member workers.
