Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea series of novels, Roke Knoll is a hill near the center of the island of Roke, the headquarters of wizardry. It is a focus of magical power, being described as "a place where all things appear as they truly are". They say the roots of the hill go all the way down to the center of the earth. Roke Knoll is also described as "the first thing that stood above the sea, when the First Word was spoken." Earthsea is a fictional realm originally created by Ursula K. Le Guin for her short story "The Word of Unbinding", published in 1964. Earthsea became the setting for a further six books, beginning with A Wizard of Earthsea, first published in 1968, and continuing with The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore, Tehanu, Tales from Earthsea and The Other Wind. All are set in the world of Earthsea, as are (to date) seven short stories by Le Guin, two of which are not collected in any of these books.
