Carlson (May 05, 1875 - May 19, 1947) was a Swedish-born American Impressionist artist. John Fabian Carlson was born in Kolsebo in Västervik Municipality, Kalmar County, in Småland, Sweden. The Carlson family immigrated to the United States in 1884, making their home in Buffalo, New York. Carlson attended evening art classes at the Art Students League of Buffalo, New York. There Carlson received instruction from Lucius Wolcott Hitchcock (1868-1942), a former pupil at the Académie Colarossi in Paris and the Art Students League of New York.
