Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress is a political party in Sri Lanka. The party was formed at a meeting held at Kattankudy in 1981 by a small study group of local Eastern Province political leaders. At the last legislative elections, held on 2 April, 2004, the party won 2.0 % of the popular vote and 5 out of 225 seats. The party represents the Muslim community of Sri Lanka. Kattankudy or Kattankudi is a small city in Eastern province of Sri Lanka. It was the site of the Kattankudy mosque massacre of 1990. With over 40,000 inhabitants, Kattankudi is one of the few cities in Sri Lanka where ethnic Moors (Muslims) form the over all majority of the population. Villages and towns surrounding the city, however are dominated by Tamils; hence ethnic conflicts between the two communities are common. In several occasions, the city has been a hotspot for fighting between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
