Blurb/Shorttext:
Dr Roger Andrewes (sometimes Andrews) (died 1635) was an English churchman and academic, archdeacon and Chancellor at Chichester Cathedral in the English Church. He was also a scholar, a Fellow of Pembroke Hall and was, in 1618, made Master of Jesus College, Cambridge. He was the brother of the scholar and cleric Lancelot Andrewes and, like his brother, served as a translator for the King James Version of the Bible. Lancelot Andrewes (1555 – 25 September 1626) was an English clergyman and scholar, who held high positions in the Church of England during the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I. During the latter's reign, Andrewes served successively as Bishop of Chichester, Ely and Winchester and oversaw the translation of the Authorized Version (or King James Version) of the Bible. In the Church of England he is commemorated on 25 September with a Lesser Festival.
