According to a legend, the fort Parikshitgarh was built by Parikshit and restored by Nain Singh in the eighteenth century. The fort was dismantled in 1857, to be used as a police station. Raja Nain Singh also renovated Digambara Jain Bada Mandir and Old Pandeshwer Temple of Hastinapur. Parikshit was a Kuru king, who succeeded Yudhisthira to the throne of Hastinapura, according to the Mahabharata and the Puranas. He was the grandson of Arjuna and the son of Abhimanyu. He was killed in a war with a Nāga king, Takshaka, the ruler of Takshashila and succeeded by his son Janamejaya.
