Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Ilyas Kashmiri, also referred to as Maulana Ilyas Kashmiri and Muhammad Ilyas Kashmiri, was a senior al-Qaeda member connected with the Soviet-Afghan war, the Kashmir conflict and attacks against India, Pakistan and the United States. In August 2010, the US and the United Nations designated him a terrorist. NBC News reported that United States officials had mentioned him as a possible successor to Osama Bin Laden as head of al-Qaeda. Kashmiri hailed from the Kotli District or Mirpur District in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. According to several sources, he became a member of the elite Pakistani Special Service Group, although in an interview he denied this. Kashmiri also spent a year studying communications at the Allama Iqbal Open University. He was an active participant in the 1980s Soviet-Afghan War, training the Afghan mujahideen in mine warfare in Miranshah on behalf of Pakistan. During the fighting he lost an eye and an index finger
