Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In logic, formal semantics is the study of the semantics, or interpretations, of formal and natural languages usually trying to capture the pre-theoretic notion of entailment. A formal language can be defined apart from any interpretation of it. This is done by designating a set of symbols and a set of formation rules which determine which strings of symbols are well-formed formulas. When transformation rules are added, and certain sentences are accepted as axioms a logical system is formed.
