Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Sphagnum Valley is a valley sloping northwest from Echo Pass to Cumberland West Bay, South Georgia. First charted by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition under Nordenskjold, 1901-04. Surveyed by the SGS in the period 1951-57 and named by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) after Sphagnum, the bog moss which occurs in this valley. Cumberland West Bay is a bay forming the western arm of Cumberland Bay, South Georgia. It is entered southward of Larsen Point, where it is 2.5 miles (4 km) wide, and extends 7 miles (11 km) in a southwest direction. This feature was surveyed by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition, 1901–04, who named it West Bay. It was remapped during 1926–29 by DI personnel and renamed West Cumberland Bay.
