Women empowerment has become the topic of interest to many in the recent times. Various statistics show that women have suffered adverse discrimination and exclusion as compared to their men counterparts at various societal levels. In Malawi, just like in many African communities, women and girls suffer multiple discriminations and exclusions such as denied access to resources, financial control, education, and participation in decision making. As such, these women and girls become more prone to poverty than men. The objective of this study was to find out the impact of SHGs approach on women economic empowerment by analyzing St John of God self-help groups (SJOG-SHGs) approach project in Mzuzu-Malawi
