The potentiality of Actinobacter species in the production of growth-regulating substances as plant fertilizers and some degradative enzymes particularly α-amylase and proteinase was studied. The most effective strain towards the production of growth-regulating substances and enzymes were Streptomyces olivaceoviridis, S. rimosus and S. rochei. Many experiments were performed to find out the optimum environmental conditions and nutritional requirements for highest growth-regulators substances and enzymes production. The presoaking of wheat grains in the culture filtrates of S. olivaceoviridis, S. rimosus and S. rochei caused significant changes in growth vigour of wheat plants (i.e. shoot fresh, dry weights, shoot length and shoot diameter). The crop yield and yield attributes were also greatly affected. The growth vigour of wheat plant enhanced by the pretreatment of wheat grains by the culture filtrate of S. olivaceoviridis.
