War Memorial Park is a parkland in Singapore dedicated to the commemoration of civilians who sacrificed their lives during World War II. It is managed under National Parks Board (Nparks). The park is located along Beach Road, in the Downtown Core of Singapore's Central Region. It is a short walk from City Hall MRT Station, east of Padang, Singapore, an iconic open field. The Japanese Forces occupied Singapore from 15 February 1942 to 15 September 1945 during World War II. The Sook Ching massacre took the lives of many. Mass war graves were dug to contain the bodies. After the war, the Government granted approval to the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce's suggestion to rebury the dead and erect memorial plaques in a proper site.
