In Iraq , knowledge is not available on the prevalence of HCMV infection. However, in Najaf , there is no study about molecular identification of HCMV among pregnant women who underwent abortion , also among infertile individuals. The aim of the current study is to highlight the role of cytomegalovirus infection in spontaneous abortion and infertility. The study objectives are : 1-To determine the HCMV among recurrent aborted women by the detection of anti-HCMV IgM and IgG antibodies by ELISA technique. 2-To detect the viral DNA by PCR technique in clinical samples of aborted women and infertile couples. 3-To recognize the epidemiological pattern of HCMV infection among aborted women and infertile attendance.
