Notas y citas / Texto breve:
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In alpha taxonomy, a grade refers to a level of morphological and/or physiological complexity. The term was coined by British biologist Julian Huxley, to contrast with clade, a strictly phylogenetic unit. An evolutionary grade is a group of species united by anatomical and/or physiological traits, that have given rise to another group that differ markedly from the ancestral condition, and thus not considered part of the ancestral group. The ancestral group will not be phylogeneticaly complete (not a clade), and represent a paraphyletic taxon. The most commonly cited example are the reptiles, united by being "cold-blooded" and covered in scales or scutes, yet are ancestral to birds and mammals.
