Since 1982 it is also the base of a helicopter detachment of civil defense, featuring the Mil Mi-6 and Mil Mi-8 aircraft. Besides civil defense and military use, the airfield is used for civilian passenger traffic flights of Antonov An-24 and Antonov An-26 aircraft. It is the hub of the Katekavia airline.
