Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Iraqi Arabic is a continuum of mutually intelligible Arabic varieties native to the Mesopotamian basin of Iraq as well as spanning into south eastern Syria and western Iran. Within Iraq itself, Iraqi Arabic in the broadest sense can be subdivided into three primary dialects, that of Baghdad, of Mosul, and of Basra. Within that, Iraq is home to a mosaic of religious communities, most notably Muslims, Christians, and more formerly, Jews, who speak their own distinctive subdialects of Iraqi Arabic. Adding to the substraum of the dialect continuum, Iraq shares its home with non-Arab ethnic communities, including Kurds, Turkmen, and Assyrians, who speak their own languages and whose languages influence the Arabic of Iraq itself.
