The breath figure on polymer surface provides a new opportunity in introducing controlled surface roughness which can be harnessed as a nonwetting surface. Also, the hemispherical wells formed due to breath figures on polymer surface acts as micrometer diameter wells for controlled biological experiments. The work presented in this dissertation deals with the study of condensation on the surface of the volatile polymer solution and their uses for the non-wetting surface as well as for cell culture. The breath figures will be formed by the condensation of water on the surface and impressions of a condensed water droplet on polymer film after evaporation of the solvent is analyzed in detail. It is seen that these ordered patterns are resulting from self-assembly of water droplets on the volatile liquid surface. These polymer surfaces are analyzed for hydrophobic property due to increased surface roughness. Also, oval/hemispherical shaped wells formed due to breath figure are exploited for the pico-liter container for cell culture experiments. We are partially successful in the above goals. The breath surface shows enhanced water repellency and became more hydrophobic than flat.
